In Jubilee Company's 12,000 sq foot showroom, you will find an enormous range of countertop
materials from natural stone to quartz countertops and everything in between.
Quartz is a primary ingredient in granite, sandstone and shale — all of which are fabricated into countertops by the Jubilee Company. But whereas natural stone countertops are manufactured from a single slab cut from the ground, a “quartz countertop” is in part man-made. It is a combination consisting of crushed or ground natural quartz mixed with resin. The final product is non-toxic with a healthy carbon footprint on the environment.
Natural quartz gives the final countertop it’s hardness and scratch resistance. The resin makes it impact resistant (thanks to it’s inherent flexibility), stain resistant, nonporous (think maintenance free with no need for annual sealing or polishing), and even nonreactive to acids (so no matter what householder cleaner, juice or science experiment is spilled on it, no damage will be done). It’s nonporous properties also block the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew.
Perfect Blend of Beauty and Functionality
Engineered quartz countertops are a blend of natural stone and resins to create a hybrid countertop that is superior in many ways to natural granite.
Quartz is, after all, a very hard, natural mineral — one of the most plentiful on Earth, qualifying it as "super-abundant." It’s hardness is rated at seven, where diamond is a ten. This is comparable to hardened steel — the substance to make some of the toughest tools, such as knives, cutting bits and chisels. It is this strength that makes quartz countertops highly resistant to cracking, chipping, abrasion, scratches and even caustic chemicals and acids that can harm other countertops (like marble) without the need for sealants.
Engineered quartz is eco-friendly in that it uses up to 94% waste rock that is a byproduct of mining and large scale stone cutting. The last 6% is the pigments and polymer resin which gives the finished substance spectacular strength, impact resistance and anti-microbial properties. It is nonallergenic and nontoxic, but it is not recommended for outdoor applications since ultraviolet rays can degrade the strength of the polymers.
The stone used for quartz countertops can be ground to different scales. The coarser the grain, the more crystals are visible in the final product. Quartz countertops have a tremendous range of color and pattern. Depending on how fine this stone is ground, many types of patterns can be reproduced. Pigments mixed in the resin enable a wide range of colors that have the appearance of real stone.
We also offer a huge range of the finest quartz countertops including,
Quartz countertops are not the same as "quartzite" countertops. Quartzite is another natural (and extraordinarily beautiful) stone used in countertop fabrication.
Quartz countertops are also thermally stable and unaffected by pots or pans up to 299 degrees Fahrenheit. Quartz has double the impact resistance and up to four times the flexible strength of granite.
Since quartz countertops are primarily made up of stone, they are heavy. But weight savings can be achieved by using a thinner overall fabrication, especially on walls and back splashes.
Like natural stone, quartz countertops are manufactured in slabs of fixed thickness. Depending on your needs, we can advise you on the best size to use for your project. Quartz countertops are truly a combination providing the best of nature and science, combined.
